You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile

By the looks of this picture you would have never guessed I was having a shit day, right? Just before this gem was snapped at Bloggers Night Out, I was cranky cubed (that’s the apex of the grouchy totem pole, FYI). I was in an epic bad mood from having to drive around for a parking spot for 45 minutes, upset with myself for taking on one-too-many writing assignments for Swim Week, feeling guilty for leaving my kids at home, feeling evil for abandoning my husband for the second night in a row, feeling stupid hot as sweat dripped down my legs, ugh…the list goes on and on. I even wore head-to-toe BLACK (which I rarely do) because I was feeling downright Grumpy-Bear-meets-Debbie-Downer.

Which leads me to this point: If you, too, are having a crap day, just do what I do — wear a Chiclet smile. This self-professed Annie aficionado learned a long time ago that, “You’re never fully dressed without a smile.” And it’s true. Wearing a smile gives you insta swag and releases happy opiates to your brain (I made some of this nonsense up, obvi). Smiles are contagious and make you burn extra calories, too (another lie). Smiles can also help one snag Olympic gold (think Gabby D.). Smiles are the Little Black Dress of emotions — everyone should wear one often.

So trust me on this one — when in doubt, wear a smile. It’s the best accessory and it’s — drum roll, por favor —  free.

Great post! Smiles open you up to many opportunities. It’s an investment piece, for real.

I love Annie. Awesome reference. I’m going to have that song in my head all day, but that’s more than ok.

Love this post. A smile not only makes you feel better, it can brighten up the day for others who may be down.
