On Faux Fall

Despite the sweltering heat in Miami (still), I currently find myself living in my spankin’ new moto jacket in a concerted effort to pretend it’s actually fall. You see, as the rest of the country reaches for their cashmeres and boots, we here in Miami beguile ourselves into believing it’s autumn with the following faux fall goodies: Spiced Pumpkin lattes from Starbucks, Glade Christmas tree scented crap, Glade gingerbread men scented crap, Febreeze Christmas tree room scented spray, Bath & Body Works snowflake (yes, snowflake) scented body wash, and loads of glittery plastic decorations emulating fall such as pumpkins, skeletons, Santas and reindeer from Target or Home Goods.

In other words, we Floridians need to simulate/dupe/bluff ourselves should we want to physically feel the Season of Change. So Disney-esque. I know, lame-o.

Always one to see the glass half full, I try and embrace this seasonal highway robbery as best I can. I tell myself these nuggets about real fall and winter: Wool sweaters are itchy. My tan will fade. I won’t pack on winter pudge (um, that’s a lie). I can always fly to New York for the real deal Christmas spirit. And I can always blow up one of those larger-than-life inflatable snow globes with flashing lights and swirling snow and plop it on the front lawn for shits and giggles.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to Home Goods in search of an autumnal wreath to hang on the front door.

LOL. I hate Christmas here. Since I grew up in NJ it just doesn’t feel like the holidays if it’s not cold. My family will be here for the first time in years though so there is that to look forward too. Love this outfit, need your acccessories and that jacket. I’m currently eyeing OTK boots despite the weater. I do not care, I will not be robbed haha.
