Among the things totally bumming me out (Hurricane Harvey’s devastation, the current scary state of our Universe, Madonna’s overuse of facial fillers, my fading tan, etc.), up there on that list is this nugget: My kids start school tomorrow.
Call me crazy, but I love summertime with my kids. I’m not one of those parents taking “Yay! School has started!” pictures on the first day of school. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! You see, the wanderlista in me cherishes summer’s freeing opportunity to pick up and go where the wind takes us (this particular year: Cape May, Greece, St. Barts and the Bahamas).
Also worth noting about back-to-school season? I’m allergic to alarm clocks. I have little patience for homework. I’m not the greatest at packing school lunches. My son is not a morning person and hates waking up before 9 a.m. — rendering him a complete monster until morning drop-off. And I miss hearing the constant chatter of my kids while I plug away at work in my home office. First world probs, I know, I know.
But you know I’m a glass-half-full-kinda-gal and the things I love about back-to-school time are the following:
- More ME time
- Back-to-school supply shopping gives me LIFE. #Nostalgia #AllTheFeels
- A steady work schedule
- More ME time
- Work picks up because Miami is on “coconut time” during the summer
- Did I mention more ME time?
Sayonara summer 2017, you were the bee’s knees.
