I may not be perfect…but I have the perfect tan! Ehr ma gawd, that intro was awful. I blame all the rum I guzzled over the past week for that word vomit. My apologies. As for that Hawaiian Tropic ad campaign-worthy tan, well, I have last week’s vacation through the bewitching British Virgin Islands to thank.

The hubby and I joined our besties aboard their sleek Sunseeker for a 4-day cruise through the BVIs. In fact, island hopping by boat is the best way to discover this cadre of islands of Her Majesty’s land because there are over 40 isles to relish. This intrinsic value alone makes the BVIs the Caribbean’s charter boat capital. 

Our journey began with a 2-hour flight into Saint Thomas where we jumped aboard the yacht and meandered through Jost Van Dyke, Srcub Island, Necker Island, Virgin Gorda and Peter Island. Surprisingly, each spot was completely different from one another.

With so much to talk about, this particular post is dedicated to Jost (pronounced “yoast”) — a little island with a big personality. Free-spirited Jost is no secret to yachters and glitterati (Jimmy Buffet and Keith Richards are usuals here) and time flies here even when you’re doing very little.

My insider travel tip? Hit up rustic Soggy Dollar Bar and order their signature cocktail, the painkiller. Bible, I’m positive the alcohol content in one glass packs enough liquid evil to kill a mini horse. And after quaffing two of these bad boys, you’ll feel completely out of your mind. Like, Lindsay Lohan and Gary Busey on a bad day, out of your mind. And that’s a good thing while on vacation.

PAINKILLER RECIPE:

2 parts rum

1 part orange juice

4 parts pineapple juice

1 part coconut cream

A sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg
