Your Next Swim-vestment and a Swift Lesson in Miami Private School Politics

{Laura Poretzky-Garcia and Lily Dickerson Maddock of Été swim}

You know how it is at private schools here in Miami: Carrollton girls roll with Belen boys, Lourdes ladies mix with Columbus lads, Palmer Trinity kiddos comingle with the Gulliver gang and we Ransom Everglades kids roll with a select few Gulliver, Palmer and Westminster peeps.

Through Symphonettes, I met Palmer gal Lily Dickerson Maddock back in the day and am proud to say she’s come a long way with her got-to-have-it-now swimsuit line Été (what the flip is up with this rancid rhyme?), which was recently given the Vogue stamp of approval. Here, I chat up the New York-based mama/horse lovin’ Lily and get the 411 on her retro-tinged swim collection.

For those who no parlez-vous Francais, what does the name of your swim collection mean? Été means summer in French.

Girl power! Tell us about your partner. My partner, Laura Poretzky-Garcia and I were put together by our mutual friend Lauren Santo Domingo who thought we would make a great team. We both have experience in design and business.

You have sick style but why get into swim? We felt there was a void in swimwear so we decided to create Été.

What is the most popular style and print? The Mimi one-piece and the Gigi bikini — they’re named after our daughters. Bright colors and always black are the most popular.

Why is Été ideal for the Miami gal? Laura and I both spend lots of time in Miami so naturally, Été is inspired by that.

{Été swim will be available on shopbop.com starting Friday}
