Don’t Shhhhhhh the Shoppers

{Nobody shushes The Wordy Girl…read on}

“Sssshhhhhh,” the PR person at a local luxury boutique scolded me like a school child as I oohed and aahed over a leather jacket that was sheer per-fec-tion (say that like Rachel Zoe would, it’ll sound better).

Taken aback by said person’s explicit rudeness at my innocent giddiness, my shopper’s high came to a startling halt…OBVI.

Which brings me to the following point: Since when does the customer get shushed? Since when does snootiness prevail over sprightliness? Since when is okay to rain on anyone’s parade? Since when is being ugly the new pretty?

Simply said, the highfalutin attitude plaguing buzz-y label boutiques is not only absurd but defies the very reason we shop: And that is to have fun with fashion. To look and feel our best. And in some cases, to wear works of art.

So I say this to you, Ms. Shhh, I’ll take my whimsicality elsewhere. Somewhere it’s welcomed… along with my credit card.

    Oh no! Shushing can be done in two ways, you can make it cute and adorable or outright snooty and mean. If this PR person did it in a mean manner, then you have every right to take your “whimsicality” somewhere else. I agree that the new pretty is ugly. There’s not a lot of fun in fashion anymore. I welcome seeing Betsey Johnson doing her cartwheels at the end of her shows! Fabulosity (trademarked by Kimora Lee Simmons) should be fun and whimsical. So, Wordy Girl, take your fabulous self and your fabulous credit card and go to where you’ll be appreciated!!!!

    Well we get people yelling and cheering when they decide on those works of art so that’s hilarious. I hope it wasn’t the Puc!!
