Move over, Buddy Valastro. Miami’s cake boss? Hands down Ice Box Cafe. Now located on Purdy Avenue, the locally loved resto serves up my favorite coconut cake (and lemon ricotta pancakes on Sundays). In fact, you can thank Oprah Winfrey for putting Ice Box in the national spotlight. Her bestie, Gail King, personally visited the cafe and gave it her stamp of approval and the long-time establishment was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Ice Box Owner Robert Siegmann tells me, “Oprah’s powerful mention 7 years ago is still going strong! Today, the number one selling cake continues to be the Chocolate Delight. Why? We all have a soft spot for the irresistible ingredients: Two layers of rich chocolate cake filled with bittersweet chocolate mousse and a layer of cheesecake brownies! Topped off with a bittersweet chocolate ganache.  Need I say more?”

Um, no.

I also love that Ice Box Cafe is extremely family friendly. We like to pop in on lazy Sundays for either brunch or dinner. I just love a restaurant where the dishes never disappoint and the ambiance is on point (Read: just because you have kids doesn’t mean you have to settle for fugly establishments with meh food). Sleek, modern and cozy, there’s a reason Ice Box has evolved over the last 15 years from a simple bakery to a full-service restaurant where healthy, freshly made seasonal food and made-from-scratch desserts remain the essence.

Now, that’s boss.
