Sweat in Style

Stella McCartney for Adidas

Ditch that worn-out T-shirt. Same goes for those hole-riddled sweatpants. Proving you can sweat in style comes adidas by Stella McCartney workout gear. And for South Florida locals and visitors alike, scoring the collaborative activewear collection is no sweat compliments of the recent opening of the first-ever standalone adidas by Stella McCartney store in the United States.

“Opening the first adidas by Stella McCartney store in the U.S. is very exciting for me. After our nine-year collaboration it’s a milestone for the brand and a natural next step. Miami is the perfect place to showcase the collection focused on style and performance,” Stella McCartney tells me.

Proving you can work out without losing your cool, the workout collection is both functional and plush. “It’s important for me that if you are on your way to the gym, you aren’t embarrassed of the way you look. If you bump into a friend or if you encounter somebody that you know; I want you to be proud of what you are wearing, because it’s something that is part of your wardrobe and part of your life. You do not have to compromise who you are and how you want to dress, dressing for sport is an extension of how you wear things in every other part of your life —there should be no difference,” McCartney says of the philosophy behind the collaboration.

Located in the epicenter of all things cool — the jutting, strutting 1111 Building by Herzog & de Meuron on Lincoln Road, the futuristic shop is brimming with vibrant swim, run, cycling, yoga and even swim pieces. “This season I was really inspired by urban landscapes, and the color tones and dimensions of a skyline. There is a play on contrasts: the run and cycling ranges are graphic, while the studio range has a hint of retro cool,” McCartney says.

Also cool is McCartney’s eco-friendly fashion philosophy. It is well known she designs “green” garments in a concerted effort to save our environment. A pioneer in ethical fashion, the vegetarian doesn’t use leather or fur in any of her creations, either. “I was brought up this way, so it came naturally to me. I grew up on an organic farm in the countryside and the whole family was vegetarian, so it sort of came without thinking. But then, when it came to me having a career, starting a job and starting a brand in fashion, I guess it wouldn’t have sat comfortably with me to be hypocritical. That was the starting point.  The seeds were sown in my personal life, then they came into my business life.” McCartney says of her sustainable stance.

As for her personal workout routine, McCartney says, “I do a lot of different things; I run, I swim, I ride my bike, I ride horses out in the country and I go to the gym.”

In stellar style, naturally.
