When it comes to ultra feminine and modern designs, Yigal Azrouël has got it in the bag. The Israeli-born designer of French-Moroccan descent launched his eponymous women’s wear label in 1998 to critical acclaim and by 2000 began participating in New York Fashion Week. Best known for his feminine designs and expert use of draping, Azrouël recently paid Miami a visit at Saks Bal Harbour for a personal appearance. We chat up the self-taught design darling on his Miami musts and more.
Your atelier is located in New York’s Garment District and you source 70 percent of the collection locally, why is this notion important to you? I like to cook my own food, if you know what I mean. I also want to support our local economy.
Why are your creations the perfect fit for Miami woman? Miami has a wonderful energy. The women here are very sexy and trendy.
You are here today to show us your separate, under-the-radar line, Cut 25. Describe Cut 25 for those not-in-the-know. Cut 25 is my younger, trendier collection. It’s named Cut 25 because it started with 25 pieces, my lucky number is 25 and the letter “Y” is the 25th letter in the alphabet. I was also born on August 25.

When in Miami, what is your go-to restaurant? I enjoy Carpaccio at Bal Harbour Shops and recently ate at Cecconi’s, which was very good as well.
Where are you staying while in town? In the St. Regis Bal Harbour. It’s amazing.
What are your favorite shopping haunts in the Magic City? I really like walking around the Design District.
Ooh, do we foresee a future Design District Yigal Azrouël standalone store? Ha ha! Maybe.
