There are days where I spend hours making bolognese sauce for my family via this recipe, but more often than not, I make the lazier version below. Because — let’s be honest here — who has 23 ingredients and the time to wait for the sauce to be complete? NO ONE BUT NONNAS IN ITALY LIVING THEIR BEST LIVES THAT’S WHO. Culling its flavor from a jar of store-bought tomato sauce (Italians everywhere are gasping in disbelief!), this is the best way to make jarred tomato sauce taste almost (emphasis on “almost”) homemade:
INGREDIENTS:
1 package of organic ground beef (I prefer with fat)
1 sweet onion, finely chopped
4 cloves of fresh garlic, finely chopped
1 jar of Rao’s tomato sauce
3 teaspoons of sugar (if you don’t like sweeter sauce, skip this)
Garlic salt to season
Olive oil — don’t be precious with it!
PREPARATION:
In a large skillet, heat up the olive oil. Add the chopped onions and garlic until translucent. Add the ground beef. Drain fat when brown. Add 1 jar of you favorite store-bought tomato sauce. Add sugar and garlic salt and a dash of more olive oil for that BOOM BOOM POW. Let simmer. Serve with your favorite pasta — according to my Italian cronies, De Cecco is the best brand available in U.S. supermarkets. Prego!
