The Good House will have you reaching for a big glass of wine — until you stumble upon the page in which you find out the loveable protagonist, Hildy Good, is a recovering alcoholic. And still struggling with sobriety.
In this guilty pleasure chosen by my neighborhood book club group, author Ann Leary (also a recovering addict) does a wonderful job portraying small-town life in coastal New England — peppered with nosy neighbors, witchcraft, boozy shenanigans, horrid hangovers, a cheating scandal and real estate greed.
From the moment I picked up this well-written tale, I couldn’t put it down. Same will go with you. It will also have you rooting for Hildy to get back on the wagon. Cheers to that!
After such a description, I will certainly be checking this book out!
You will LOVE it, Chanoa!
