Summit House in Harbour Island, Bahamas

My favorite Bahamian island? Harbour Island, natch!

This is my sixth stay on the infamous island replete with pink sand beaches, chic hotels and stellar restaurants and I feel like I’ve finally gotten the lay of the land. While I usually stay at The Dunmore or Coral Sands hotels, we most recently chose to rent a private villa because we were a party of 12.

With only one week’s notice, I couldn’t find many options on VRBO but did secure Summit Estate. Extremely spacious, the property is replete with a main house, huge guest cottage, pool, roomy patios, spectacular sunset views and outdoor shower. Summit Estate boasts 6 bedrooms and sleeps 15 people total and costs $3,380 a night (low season). The home is decorated in classic Briland flair and swathed in funky prints, Bahamian art and pirate ship vibes. Summit House is not located on the beach — but it’s a short 2 minute walk from the back porch to the illustrious pink sand beaches. Getting to the house in a golf cart is not for the faint of heart as it rests on top of a steep hill. #Adventure

The VRBO description reads: “Summit Estate comprises a beautiful villa and divine cottage, stylishly decorated with British and Bahamian antiques. The houses which can be rented together or separately, are arranged around a truly spectacular pool complex with bar, changing room and garden room. This is a real home away from home but with all the amenities you would expect from a truly luxurious holiday rental. As well as enjoying 360 degree views, perfect for both sunrise and sunset we are also a stone’s throw from the famous Pink Sands Beach.

Summit House (sleeps 6 adults and 3 kids) has a large sitting room, fully kitted out kitchen, generous covered porch with a 14-seater table perfect for alfresco dining, 3 double bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and a chic kids dorm sleeping 3.

Summit View Cottage (sleeps 6 adults ) has two generous doubles, two singles, en-suite bathrooms, open plan kitchen diner, and wonderful views of the harbour and the famous Bahamian sunsets. The house comes with 5 hours of maid service a day, six days a week, a full-time gardener and a utilities manager. A cook can be arranged if required.”

We truly enjoyed our stay here but loved our previous home rental — Sea Siren — more. For more details and pictures of Summit House, go here
