Few meals scream comfort food quite like Salisbury steak. As a child growing up in New Jersey, it was my go-to diner order. Believe it or not, Salisbury steak is named after Dr. James Henry Salisbury, a 19th-century American physician who believed diet — particularly minced beef — could play an important role in health. Think juicy hamburger patties smothered in rich, savory gravy that instantly feels like a warm hug. Salisbury steak is hearty, nostalgic and absolutely begging for a side of mashed potatoes.
