On Abs & Texas Tuxedos

For whatever reason, I’m one of those people who was gifted a pot belly (which my father lovingly called “Buddha-ish”) and abdominals with the strength of a guinea pig (I blame my mother, obvs). I’ve accepted the fact I’ll never have 6-pack abs like the psychos in those infomercials — but at my best… I’ll have 3-pack abs. And I’m totally okay with that.

While this post sounds vapid, well, a few of you have been asking me how I trimmed down the last few months and the answer is: I now eat a gluten-free diet (read about why here) and practice Pilates twice a week. Sometimes, I’ll play tennis or go for a 30-minute run to slip some cardio in. Also attributing to my weight loss? This sounds really b-o-r-i-n-g, but I refuse to eat out during week nights and cook Mondays through Friday like a good Greek mama.

So there’s that, freaks.

As for this look, when in doubt, you can always spot me in the omnipresent Texas Tuxedo — also known as the denim-on-denim trend. In order to pull off this look without channeling some rodeo dude flip-flapping atop a bull is by mixing different shades of denim and throwing in some chic pumps like my fave Manolo Blahniks and a Chanel bag freshly gleaned from my mother’s wardrobe (okay, okay, I take back that nasty thing I wrote about your earlier, mama). The latter duo elevate an otherwise meh ensemble.

And now you know!
